MARTIN Ward is ready to “spring” into title action when he gets to fight for his first professional title.
The gifted Neil Fannan and Dave Garside boxer is to fight for the English bantamweight championship against Craig Lyon.
It is a long overdue opportunity for Ward who has entertained boxing fans with his delightful array of skills and movement.
Fannan is “excited” to get the 23-year-old on the pro title ladder and hopes Frank Maloney will promote the contest.
“Martin has been nominated for the English title against Craig Lyon and it’s gone out to purse offers,” said Fannan.
“Frank Maloney has promised to bid for it, something I think I have reminded him about, around seven or eight times!
“It will happen in the spring, probably March, but possibly February.
“Lyon is a worthy opponent but I have Martin down as a match for anyone in this division.
“It’s also going to be an official eliminator for the British championship so if he wins against Craig he can move on to fight for that.
“Martin is a class operator, who has probably been ready for a title for a while, and we’re excited that he is on the move.”
