Durham cricket boost as key duo sign contract extensions

TITLE-chasing Durham have given two of their leading players new deals.

Opener Mark Stoneman and bowler Mark Wood have signed contract extensions at the LV= First Division high fliers.

Gateshead-born batsman Stoneman has signed on for the 2014 and 2015 seasons whiled Wood has put pen to paper for a further three years, taking him up until the end of the 2016 season.

“I will be looking to continue my recent form scoring runs at the top of the order in all three formats,” said Stoneman, who is also captaining the Yorkshire Bank 40 side in the absence of the injured Dale Benkenstein.

Academy product Wood, from Northumberland, has made quite an impression in his 18 matches for the club after making his debut in 2011.

The pace ace played a crucial role in Durham’s LV win against Nottinghamshire taking 2-58 & 3-57 and making 58 not out with the bat.

Wood said: “We have a fantastic squad and it is great to be part of that.”
