Hartlepool faultered again as they slumped to a defeat against Darlington on Saturday.
With the sides having only met last weekend, both sides knew their opposition well.
In the first game, Darlington’s batsmen had the upper hand against the Pool bowlers, and that trend continued as they chased down their target with ease.
Pool batted first and posted a moderate 181 for the loss of eight wickets.
Pool lost Neil Coverdale in the first over, but saw Phil Mustard and John Watson push the score on.
Watson’s dismissal brought Pool’s most attacking players to the crease. Mustard and Jon Rickard started upping the scoring rate, with Mustard passing his half century.
When both players were dismissed, Lewis Stabler stepped up to the plate, playing a characteristic swashbuckling knock, well supported by Jake Richardson, as Pool managed to scramble to 181.
In the previous game, it was professional Mohammed Saad who scored a century to torment the Pool bowlers. Once again he played a major part in chasing down Pool’s total.
Olli Mole struck early to remove Nathsn Wright, as Pool reverted back to an all pace attack at the start of the innings.
James Sutton and Saad tormented the Pool attack, with Sutton finishing the game with an undefeated century to see his side home.
Pool did strike once more though Jonathan Carson, who removed Saad for 47. It was left for Liam Coates and Sutton to guide their side to a well deserved eight wicket victory.
The result leaves Pool languishing in mid-table, and they will want to get back into winning ways as soon as possible.
