Jordan Nobbs, daughter of Pools legend Keith Nobbs, has been named in the England women’s squad to play at Victoria Park, writes Matthew Henry.
The Arsenal and England international is set to step out at the ground where her dad made 326 appearances for Pools when England face Sweden in a friendly next month.
Jordan said: “It’s huge this game being in the North-East and for me on a personal level with the game being in pretty much my home town it will be great.”
Local girl Jordan made her Three Lions debut last year and has since earned 11 caps. Nobbs also scored for Arsenal in the 2013 Women’s FA Cup Final.
She said: “Playing for England in Hartlepool would definitely be up there, if I can make the final squad and play I know it will definitely make my dad proud.”
Last week, Nobbs made her comeback after being side-lined through a back injury since February.
She said: “My dad was really chuffed when I told him, he knows how hard I have been working to get back to fitness and throughout my career.”
The Gunners midfielder added: “The manager has been really good with me and I am really grateful that he has included me in the squad with minimal minutes on the pitch in the last few months.”
“I am really happy to be in the squad and hopefully a few more minutes before then will give me more chance when the squad is cut down to 23 because I’ve missed being part of the squad.”
England’s final 23-strong squad for the game against Sweden on August 3 will be named on July 21.
