CRYSTAL Palace are set to make a formal approach to Newcastle United for Alan Pardew.
The club dismissed manager Neil Warnock late last week after a poor start to the season.
And Pardew, the Premier League’s second-longest serving manager, has been identified as their preferred replacement.
However, Palace would have to pay substantial compensation to take Pardew, who is two years into an eight-year contract.
The 53-year-old fuelled speculation linking him with the vacant post at his former club by refusing to speak to the media after yesterday’s 3-2 win over Everton.
Pardew has previously indicated he would not walk out on Newcastle, the club he has served for more than four years.
United have made no comment.
