5. Jacob Butterfield
Signed by Tony Mowbray from Norwich in 2013, the central midfielder showed flashes of promise during his single season at the Riverside. He left Boro the following summer and ended up at Derby, via Huddersfield, before spending four years at Pride Park.

6. Chris Riggott
One of Boro's UEFA Cup heroes. Riggott started his career at Derby before joining the Teessiders in 2003.Things didn't quite work out for the centre-back after leaving the Riverside, though, as injuries took their toll.

7. Malcolm Christie
The striker made over 100 appearances for Derby before joining the Teessiders in 2003. Christie was part of Boro's 2004 League Cup-winning team but his game time was limited due to several injuries.

8. Fabrizio Ravanelli
A crowd favourite during his one season with Boro. Despite the club's relegation from the top-flight in 1997, Ravanelli scored an impressive 31 goals in all competitions and helped Boro reach the League Cup final. The forward later joined Derby in 2001.
