Josh MacQuoid’s 40th minute header proved to be the difference between the sides as Pools were left frustrated on the south coast.
Dave Challinor’s side were reduced to 10 men in the second half as substitute Luke Molyneux was shown a straight red card for a high challenge as Pools dropped to third.
