Pools found themselves 2-0 down away to the League Two side but a second half fightback saw Dave Challinor’s side head back to the North East with a replay, the game finishing 2-2.
The draw for the third round of the competition takes place tonight from 7pm.
Championship and Premier League sides enter the competition at the third round stage and if Pools beat Exeter in the replay then they could be in line for a big third round clash.

Distribution was shaky and arguably could have done better for the opening goal. Made a good save in the build-up to Exeter’s second goal but has parry fell straight into the path of Atangana. But made a simply remarkable triple save just moments before Pools’ first goal. Played a massive part in forcing the replay by full-time. Photo: Thomas Banks
