Gateshead confirm appointment of ex-Hartlepool United chief Martin Jesper as executive advisor

Gateshead have confirmed the appointment of Martin Jesper as executive advisor to their board of directors.

Jesper is well-versed in the North East non-league game after spending three years as chief executive at Gateshead’s National League North rivals Darlington.

He also spent time at Hartlepool United after owner Raj Singh appointed him as executive director at Victoria Park last summer and has also held a number of advisory roles with EFL clubs.

Jesper also moved north of the border in 2015 when he took up a role as head of strategic developments at Hearts.

His appointment at Gateshead is part of the ongoing regeneration at the International Stadium.

Earlier this month, the Heed named Kane Wears as their new head of recruitment and academy manager and James Rushmore was confirmed as the club’s communications and marketing development officer last week.

The appointment of Jesper will help the club move into the next stage of their development under the ownership of a supporter-led consortium according to chairman Neil Pinkerton.

He told the club website: “I have known Martin for a couple of years and he has been on our radar since day one.

“We are delighted to be able to welcome such a high calibre individual, during what is a significant period in our growth.

“Martin brings a wealth of experience from business and elite sporting environments and he will undoubtedly prove to be an invaluable asset as we begin to develop our long term aims and realise our short-term goals.”

Jesper outlined his vision for his new role and explained the he is hoping to help the club progress on and off the pitch.

He said: “The long-term vision for the club must focus on sustainability,” said Martin.

“That means not just focusing on the results on the pitch but also taking a critically constructive challenge to the club’s Academy, Foundation, Commercial, Operational and Performance related activities and engagement.

“Doing so will provide a solid platform for the growth of the club as a recognised, and sustainable, community brand – creating a club, not just building a team,” he added.
