The Irish midfielder has been limited to just 20 starts for Pools so far this season but is still one of the leading contributors when it comes to goals and assists.

Holohan celebrated the new deal by netting his ninth goal of the campaign during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Sutton United.

“I’m over the moon to get it sorted, it’s been in the pipeline for a few weeks so I was delighted to get it over the line and commit to the next couple of years here,” he said.

“I’ve said that I feel at home here and I didn’t want to see myself going anywhere else so I just wanted to get it signed and sorted as quickly as possible.”

Holohan is the first Hartlepool player Dave Challinor has been able to tie down to a new contract since taking charge back in November.

And the 28-year-old is keen to repay the faith shown in him by his manager and the club.

“I’ve obviously done something right, I try and do my best every time I play for the club,” Holohan added.

“It’s a privilege to play for Hartlepool this so I just go out there and try to produce and give my all every week so obviously I’m thankful the club has rewarded me with a new contract.”
