Hartlepool United’s 3-2 defeat at Harrogate Town less than two weeks ago was undoubtedly a low point in the season – on Boxing Day they have the chance to put things right.

Pools responded well from their FA Trophy disappointment against Harrogate at the CNG Stadium with a 1-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge at Victoria Park to kick-off their National League Christmas schedule with a win.

Now they’ve got the chance to continue to build some momentum when they return to North Yorkshire on Thursday.

“Yeah, it’s a chance for us to put things right,” admitted Hartlepool assistant manager Joe Parkinson.

“Unfortunately we went there and at one stage we were cruising at 2-0 and we couldn’t see what was going to happen.

“It’s not so much payback, we just need to go there and show what a good team we are to get a positive result out of it.

“I’m sure you can use the FA Trophy match to inspire the players hopefully to get a bit of revenge or anything that will help us to right that wrong.

“It was down to our individual mistakes which let Harrogate back into it so we need to cut them out in order to get a positive result.

“If we’re on it and positive with our play then we’ve got goals in our team. But like we showed on the negative side, we are prone to conceding which we need to cut out consistently.”
