FORMER Hartlepool United star Mark Robinson knows all about “Big Stevie Howard” – not least the size of his football boots.
It was a teenage Robbo – then a trainee at Victoria Park - who was tasked with the job of cleaning the striker’s footwear back in the late 1990s.
And tonight the Whitby Town defender will come up against Howard when Pools take on The Seasiders in a pre-season friendly at the Turnbull Ground.
“It will be great to see big Stevie again,” Robinson, now 31, told SportMail.
“It was my job to clean his boots when I was a trainee – and I tell you, they were massive!
“But I think it’s a fantastic move getting back him back to the club.
“He’s still a top player and I really think he’ll have a big season for them.
“He showed after he left what a quality player he was and got a couple of great moves.
“I just hope he goes easy on us tonight.”
Robinson made his professional bow with Pools in 2000 and spent another four years at the Vic – making 90 appearances
