WHAT IS the old saying?

He who laughs last, laughs longest.

There was no-one at Victoria Park on Saturday with a wider smile than Carlisle left-sided midfielder Matty Robson.

For some unknown reason the former Pools star was booed and cursed at by some home fans, even though the Coxhoe lad gave his local club good service, with 135 appearances.

But Robson had the last word by squeezing an 85th-minute winner beyond Scott Flinders in Carlisle’s 2-1 win at Hartlepool United.

“I was laughing at them [the comments],” said Robson.

“Some of their chants were brilliant – I think the best one was ‘Matty Robson, his chin is offside’.

“Some of the lads were joking about it in the dressing room, I heard it and I was in bits laughing.

“But to get the goal gives me the last laugh, especially at my old club where I spent so long at.

“I’ve got three goals already this season, it’s something lacking from my game and it’s an aim to get more because I’ve been moved further upfield.

“I want double figures, I’ve had nine before, but I would like more and I’m confident I can.”
