Hartlepool United boss Matthew Bates is set to be without the services of Liam Donnelly for the trip to Sutton United.

The Northern Ireland Under-21 international is struggling with a calf injury ahead of Saturday’s National League game (KO 3pm).

Young defender Aaron Cunningham is making progress after a long spell out with ankle injury and could be in contention for the squad but Scott Harrison is building his fitness after a hamstring injury.

Midfielder Luke George remains out with a similar injury.

Pools are 17th in the National League, four places and four points above the relegation zone while opponents Sutton United are in the promotion hunt.

They are third and currently occupy a play-off spot, 13 points adrift of Macclesfield in top spot.
