Ex-Hartlepool defender Jack Baldwin among TEN defenders on Sunderland's wishlist

Sunderland chairman Stewart Donald has confirmed former Pools defender Jack Baldwin is on Jack Ross' summer wishlist.

In a revealing interview with fan site Roker Report, Donald revealed Baldwin is one of ten players Ross is keen to add, with the Black Cats understood to be targeting at least two defenders between now and the end of the window.

"He's on the list," said Donald when asked about Peterborough's Baldwin.

"There's about 10 defenders on the list. Jack (Ross) will have them in order and we'll work through them. He's a name on the list.

"Without going into two much detail, the view is we need two centre-halves and his has been put forward as one of them."

A sale is unlikely to boost Matthew Bates' summer budget, though.

The 24-year-old has been made available for transfer by Posh this summer, with the League One outfit keen to cash in on their skipper, who they signed for around £500,000 from Pools in January 2014.

As part of the deal that took Baldwin south, a sell on clause was inserted, meaning Pools profit from the potential sale of the player in the future.

But the Mail has learned that unless Baldwin leaves for more than the half a million fee paid, the clause states the club will not pocket any percentage of the sale.

And with Posh looking for around £200,000 for the central defender, Pools are highly unlikely to see any further return for the player who broke on the scene at the Vic back in 2011.

Scottish Premiership sides Aberdeen and Dundee have both had bids rejected for the player so far this summer.
