Hartlepool United suffered a body blow for their FA Cup tie with Salford City when Michael Duckworth was ruled out of the second round replay.
The defender was ruled out with a groin problem, with boss Ronnie Moore moving skipper Carl Magnay to right-back.
Connor Smith came into the starting XI as Moore looked set to start with a 4-4-2 system with Scott Fenwick and Rakish Bingham reprising their old front partnership.
Kudus Oyenuga returned to the squad after a tw-match absence, taking his place on the bench.
