ANDY Collett might have broken blue-and-white hearts in his former guise as goalkeeper of rivals Darlington.
But now Micky Barron is hoping he’ll pass on that expertise to the current crop of Pools netminders.
Collett has replaced Gary Walsh as goalkeeping coach at Victoria Park after the ex-Middlesbrough stopper joined former team-mate Nicky Barmby at Hull City.
But the new member of the backroom team is perhaps best known in these quarters for his performance for the Quakers during a 1-1 draw against Pools back in 2001.
His goalmouth heroics earned him a score of 10 out of 10 in many local newspapers and Barron admits his former Middlesbrough youth-team pal is a good addition to the backroom team.
“It was always going to be hard to replace Gary but hopefully in Andy he’ll be able to do that,” said the Pools caretaker boss.
“I’ve known him since we were YT players at Boro together but he’s probably best known for that game against us when we just could not get the ball past him.
“Whatever we tried that day we just could not score – he even got a 10 out of 10 in the paper, which doesn’t happen very often.
“So if he can make our keepers play like he did that day then I think we’ll all be happy.”
