Ronnie Moore was pleased with his side’s improved display - despite the 1-0 defeat to Chesterfield.

Sam Morsy’s 75th minute winner was enough to separate the two sides at Victoria Park, the final friendly of pre-season.

Pools - who lined up in a 3-5-2 formation - were missing Dan Jones, Trevor Carson and Jordan Richards through injury.

The defence have been worked hard this week after the 5-3 defeat to Gateshead and Moore was pleased with the improved display.

But he is sweating on the fitness of Jones ahead of the new season, with Moore still keen to bring in additional cover at the back.

“We have done a lot of work with the back three and you could see that,” said Moore.

“We didn’t give them too many chances.

“But you would expect that from a League One side, it was just sloppy from our point of view with the goal conceded.

“It was self-destruct really, we had it and played it back. Then it went out of play and we were caught on the throw-in.

“I can’t be disappointed though, it was a good workout for us.

“There was no panic and you can see how much we have worked on the defence.

“The wing backs know their roles going forward and there needs to be more crosses, especially from the left-hand side.

“I know it is disappointing to lose but it is all about next week now,” added the Pools boss ahead of the Morecambe match on Saturday.
