YOUNG Hartlepool United defender Adam Male has had surgery on a broken leg.

The 16-year-old youth team defender suffered a broken leg during last Friday’s game against Scunthorpe United in a Youth Alliance League fixture.

The game was abandoned after only nine minutes as a result of Male sustaining the injury in an accidental collision.

The Sky Bet League Two club say surgeons have reported the operation on Tuesday was a success.

Academy manager John Hewitson said: “It’s positive that things have gone well with the surgery and he has all our best wishes for his recovery.

“Hopefully he can be back as quickly as possible because he’ll be a big miss for us.”

Club officials say if all goes well with his rehabilitation, the left-back could be back in action before the end of the season.
