Hartlepool United were forced to settle for their second successive 1-1 home draw as Tranmere fought back for a point.

Nicky Deverdics had given Pools the lead in the 52nd minute with a screamer of a free-kick from 30 yards.

But to continue the theme of set-piece goals, half-time sub Jay McEveley powered in a 58th-minute equaliser from a corner.

Tranmere had a glorious cchance in the fourth minute of added time to win it but Connor Jennings shot over tyhe bar.

There was a dramatic start as Tranmere's sizable central defender Steve McNulty was booked in the first minute for tripping Devante Rodney.

Pools had an escape in the 13th minute when Tranmere opened up the home defence but Loach saved from Dylan Mottley-Henry.

The hosts soon threatened at the other end with Michael Woods shining, but Rhys Oates saw his left footer saved by Scott Davies, before a Deverdics left-footer went wide.

Pools had a series of corners with no reward before Franks fired high over the bar from 25 yards, while Lewis Hawkins miscued from a Carl Magnay cross.

Harrison's side were then thwarted by Davies, the keeper flying high to his right to keep out a Deverdics shot from the edge of the area before blocking a diving header from Oates after a cracking cross from Lewis Hawkins.

Pools took the lead in the 52nd minute with a goal of the season contender.

Oates had lost the ball but referee Andrew Miller brought play back for a home free-kick 30-yards out.

DEVERDICS stepped up and sent an exocet of a shot into Davies's right corner.

However, the home lead lasted less than seven minutes.

Andy Cook was allowed to run for ever and get his shot off which was deflected, forcing Loach to turn it away for a corner.

And from Liam Ridehalgh's corner from the left, McEVELEY rose highest to thunder a 10-yard header into Loach's top-right corner.

Pools returned to the attack, but Rodney's shot was deflected wide for a corner.

Tranmere were dangerous themselves and Loach needed to produce a diving save to his left to pus out James Norwood's shot from the edge of the box.

Rovers were finishing the stronger and Pools had an 89th-minute let-off when Cook could not quite get on end of a Norwood cross.

Tranmere should have won it in the fourth and final minute of stoppage time but Jennings put his shot over the bar with the goal at his mercy.
