Hartlepool United Ladies have clinched back-to-back promotions after beating Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 in their North East Regional Women’s League play-off.
Goals from the league's leading scorer Jess Dawson, Jussy Robinson and Nicola Duckling took Pools to a sensational victory over the Owls at Wilberfoss Sports Ground.
While Sheffield Wednesday's men proved a nemesis for Pools in 2005 League One play-off final at the Millennium Stadium, there was no denying Andy Stuart's team near York.
Stuart told SportMail last week that Pools were looking to capitalise on this "bonus" match.
Pools had been happy with the runners-up spot in NERWFL (North), where Durham had taken the title and automatic promotion.
Then came news of a promotion play-off match between the clubs who finished second in the north and south NERWFL divisions.
It has not been easy for Stuart and Pools who ended their league programme early last month and have had to play friendlies to stay match-sharp.
And that has, seemingly, proved key after sweeping past Wednesday to clinch their second onsecutive promotion.
