HARTLEPOOL United legend Ritchie Humphreys has signed for League Two rivals Chesterfield.

The 35-year-old was released by Pools at the end of last season after 12 years at Victoria Park.

But Humphreys has now rejoined forces with former Pools boss Chris Turner, who is chief executive with The Spireites.

“I’m really excited at the prospect of a fresh challenge,” said Humphreys, who has penned a one-year deal.

“I’ve been so impressed with the players, management team and facilities at the club and I can’t wait to get started.

“This is a fantastic football club and I’m delighted to be a part of it.”

Meanwhile, manager Paul Cook believes Humphreys will be a useful addition to the squad.

“Ritchie’s had a good career and we’re delighted he has agreed to join us.

“He has trained with us and showed great professionalism with a superb attitude to training.
“He’ll offer cover in various positions.”
