JOHN Hughes remains cautious in his hunt for new faces to aid Hartlepool United’s survival bid – but he admits the club were interested in signing Barry Robson.
The 34-year-old yesterday completed a deadline-day move to Sheffield United having last month parted company with MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps.
The former Middlesbrough midfielder returned to Teesside and was training with his old club as recently as this week.
Hughes has told SportMail that he was keen on bringing his Scottish compatriot to Victoria Park, but the Blades made their move, signing Robson on a deal until the end of the season.
“I said two weeks ago we all want one or two players coming in, it’s something to look at,” he told SportMail.
“Robson was just a name that was thrown about but you thought ‘could he have come in and been a leader in that dressing room? Someone to come in and grab it by the scruff of the neck?’.
“That’s what we need.”
