Hartlepool United’s Antony Sweeney celebrates player of the year award by signing up again

FOURTEEN goals – three player of the year trophies.

Those are the vital statistics which have made Antony Sweeney “numero uno” at Hartlepool United.

The midfielder has been rejuvenated by Mick Wadsworth and the role he has been given in the first-team coach’s formation.

Sweeney has fired in an incredible 14 goals from the middle of the park and you suspect, but for injury cutting him down when he was at his peak, he may well have had a few more.

But hitting the net on such a regular basis and the consistent threat he has shown has won him the Player of the Year trophies from the Hartlepool United Supporters Association, his fellow players and the Hartlepool Mail.

Sweeney was at Victoria Park yesterday for two important reasons.

He not only picked up the piece of Mail silverware, he also put pen to paper at the same time on a new contract.
