HARTLEPOOL United have confirmed star striker Luke James has handed in a transfer request.
The highly rated 19-year-old, who scored 16 goals last season for the Sky Bet League Two club, handed in the written transfer request this aftermnoon.
Club officials have confirmed it but said they have told James that he remains under contract with the club.
They say they won’t be making any further comment at this moment in time.
James has been courting the attentions of clubs in the higher leagues for the past 12-months and League One side Peterborough United are believed to be leading the chase with figures upwards of £750,000 mentioned.
A Pools spokesman said: “Pools striker Luke James has today handed in a written transfer request.
“The Club has acknowledged the request but advised Luke that he remains under contract to Hartlepool United.
“There will be no further comment at this time.”
Amble-born James has scored 22 goals in 98 appearances for Pools.
