Hartlepool United will play Premier League new boys Bournemouth in the second round of the Capital One Cup.

Pools, who dumped League One Fleetwood Town out of the cup on Tuesday night after a 1-0 win at Highbury, will take on their old League One rivals at Victoria Park on week commencing Monday, August 24.

Billy Paynter headed in the winner on Tuesday night to put Pools into round two after an absence of four years.

Bournemouth won the Championship last season under Eddie Howe to reach the top flight for the first time in the club’s history.

Pools and the Cherries are linked by Dean Court legend, Steve Fletcher, the former United striker who made over 600 appearances for the south coast side.

Both Sunderland and Newcastle United drew League Two clubs, Exeter City and Northampton Town, while Middlesbrough must travel to League One new boys Burton Albion, who are managed by ex-Boro striker Jimmy Flloyd Hasselbaink.
