COLIN Cooper did no transfer business before the closure of the loan window,

But it does not mean that the Hartlepool United boss has not kept his eyes and ears open.

As he has suggested throughout the week in SportMail, Cooper believes any business he does will not happen until the January transfer window opens.

“I have made two or three phone calls,” he explained.

“They were just inquiries really on players I have had my eye on for a while, or have been mentioned to me by agents or clubs.

“Whether anything comes of them I doubt it.

“While the ones I have checked on would make us better and stronger, it would probably have to be January for us when the transfer window re-opens.

“I am no in any great panic [to add to the squad].

“Aside from young Dan Jones, the 24 players I have available to me are fit and healthy in body and mind.”

Cooper has club captain Antony Sweeney, teenage midfielder Brad Walker and defender Jordan Richards as three players knocking on the door for selection.

He believes those players – and others in his squad – deserve a crack at the side before bringing in talent from outside Victoria Park.

“As I have said before we have players who are ready to come into the team who are champing at the bit,” he said.

“I think they deserve the opportunity and have the capability to come in and make an impact.

“We’ll certainly need that over the festive period I would suggest.

“I have inquired and will continue to do so over the month of December.

“Once today is out of the way, everyone’s focus will then turn to the January transfer window, as well as the five weeks of football of course.”
