Hartlepool Utd are being strongly linked with a move to sign midfielder Jason Kennedy from Bradford City.
Cooper has made no secret he wants to add experience to his midfield options and 27-year-old Kennedy could fit the bill.
The 6ft 1” midfielder started his career as a trainee at Middlesbrough, spending four seasons at the Riverside between 2004 and 2008.
During that spell he spent time out on loan at Boston United, Livingston, Bury and Darlington.
Kennedy then moved permanently to Darlington in 2008 before spells at Rochdale and then Bradford City, who he joined in 2013.
Last season Kennedy - who has long been linked with a move to Pools including last summer - spent a spell on loan last season at former club Rochdale.
He came on as a second-half substitute for Bradford in Saturday’s 1-1 friendly with Pools.
Cooper, a former Boro player, is familiar with Kennedy from their time at the club and if he were to sign would add to the strong Boro contingent at Pools.
