IT’S not the ideal circumstance in which to find yourself back in the team – but Ritchie Humphreys isn’t complaining too loudly.
An injury-stricken midfield has seen the Pools legend answer an engine-room SOS.
He was paired with fellow veteran Paul Murray in the middle of the park for Tuesday’s visit of Huddersfield Town – and they responded with a combative yet classy display during a hard-fought goalless draw.
Humphreys looks set to keep his place for tomorrow’s trip to Stevenage (kick off 3pm) and he told SportMail he’s going to make the most of his first-team chance.
“I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed Tuesday night,” said the 33-year-old.
“The atmosphere in the ground and the tempo of the game made it brilliant to be part of.
“I couldn’t sleep when I got home but, as a footballer, that’s what you want.
“You’re buzzing after a game like that and, although your legs are screaming out fatigue, your mind is racing going over things in the game.
“I ended up watching some mundane TV but give me that every week – it was just brilliant to be part of a performance like that and I loved every minute of it.”
