Hartlepool United were on the receiving end of a 4-1 defeat to Luton Town.

Reporter Richard Mennear gives his player ratings below as Pools suffered back-to-back defeats.

Adam Bartlett: 5. Could have done better for Hatters opener, parried into path of Smith. Could do little about the others though.

Brad Halliday: 5. Looked more comfortable when Mackail-Smith went off but should have done more to prevent Luton third. Miss-kick at a crucial time.

Scott Harrison: 5. Blasted a free-kick high over the bar first half. Lack of pace shown up for Luton’s second. Poor second half.

Andrew Boyce: 5. Jury still very much out on Boyce. Looked out of sorts and uncomfortable at the back. Another unconvincing display.

Jake Carroll: 5. Still much more to come from the left-back. Off day all round for the defence.

Connor Smith: 6. Rapid pace and he started brightly winning a free-kick. Works hard and kept grafting.

Carl Magnay: 6. Back in the side and marshalled the area in front of the defence after Mackail-Smith had gone off. One of Pools’ better players.

Michael Woods: 6. Quiet afternoon for Woods but Kept play ticking over.

Rhys Oates: 6. Worked hard down the left wing and provided the assist for Paynter’s equaliser. Poor crossing second half though.

Billy Paynter: 6. Captain Paynter came up trumps with 45th minute equaliser, linked up well with Bingham and showed a range of passing. Went off as a precaution second half.

Rakish Bingham: 5. Should have scored a hat-trick, had several good chances. Tyler made one fine stop to deny him first half. Needs to find form fast.
