LOMANA LuaLua looks set to resurface at Hartlepool United, writes CRAIG HOPE.

SportMail reported on Tuesday that the Congolese striker, a free agent since his departure from Cypriot side Apoel Nicosia in May, had trained with Pools last week, only to fail to show over the weekend.

But, after re-establishing contact with LuaLua, Mick Wadsworth will welcome him back to Maiden Castle, with the former Newcastle United star keen to maintain his fitness.

The Pools boss explained: “I’ve known Lomana a long, long time and I’d say he’s a friend in the sense that we’ve always stayed in touch.

“He just asked to train with us to help with his fitness.

“He trained one day last week and probably will again in the next few days.

“He’s finished his stint in Cyprus and now wants to be back in the UK and preferably back in the north-east.

“But at the moment it’s nothing other than him having permission to train with us ahead of what he wants to do next.”

It was widely reported that LuaLua had also been training with Championship side Blackpool with a view to a possible deal, although that now looks unlikely.
