Jake Carroll has been awarded the opening Hartlepool United goal in the 2-1 win at Yeovil Town.

There was confusion after Scott Fenwick - and later Andrew Boyce - claimed it after Carroll’s 32nd-minute free-kick seemed to go straight in.

Afterwards, referee Fred Graham said he had given the goal to the full-back, though a photographer behind the goal was adamant Fenwick had headed it in.

Pools boss Ronnie Moore said: “They are all claiming it.

“I went to speak to the referee and he said as far as he was concerned he was giving it to the taker.

“He’s given it to Jake. Scotty’s not happy and Boycey’s saying he hit it as well.

“One of the photographers has said Scotty got his head to it but the ref says he’s given it to Jake.”

But there was no doubt about the scorer of the winner.

Supersub Brad Walker finished from close range seven minutes from time after fellow second-half substitute Kudus Oyenuga had miss-hit his shot.

The win moved Pools up to 11th in the League Two table.

Moore admitted he thought a draw would have been a fair result, but was happy to take the three points.

“It certainly wasn’t a classic,” said Moore. “We’ve had some decent games and not taken the points I think we deserved.

“But here we’ve not played particularly well and taken all three.

“We’re not grumbling..

“It was a poor game, I think the teams cancelled each other out, and we never really got out of first gear.”
