HARTLEPOOL United defender Neill Austin says there is only one way to remedy the opening-day defeat at Rochdale.
And that is by coming out fighting against Championship outfit Nottingham Forest in tonight’s Capital One Cup First Round.
“There’s no point in letting this linger, we are at Nottingham Forest and then at home on Saturday, so there are games to come to put this right,” Austin told SportMail today.
“A good result at Forest will give us confidence.
“It will be a tough one but there are shocks in all competitions.
“Do they put their strongest team out or play the reserves?
“Either way, we go there with a positive attitude and trying to get a result out of it.”
Austin, though, admits he was left feeling disconsolate following the defeat at Spotland on Saturday.
The 30-year-old believes that, after a disciplined pre-season, it was difficult to stomach the manner of the 3-0 reverse.
“We wanted a positive result, even 0-0 would have done us,” he said.
“To concede in the way we did was disappointing.
“We have been tight in pre-season and not gave much away and we’ve had a reasonably strong defence in recent seasons.
“It was so disappointing what happened.
“The gaffer tried to lift us in the dressing room and get our heads up
“Faces were on the floor, but there’s a game tonight to bounce back and try to rectify the mistakes
“That is what we have to do.”
