HARTLEPOOL United will kick off the new season with a trip to MK Dons on Saturday, August 6.
It’s a repeat of the opening game of two years ago when Chris Turner’s men emerged with a point following a goalless draw at the Stadium:MK.
After that it’s a home double header with Walsall the visitors on Saturday, August 13, before Lee Clark brings last season’s play-off finalists Huddersfield Town to Victoria Park on Tuesday, August 16.
Mick Wadsworth’s men don’t have to wait too long before meeting one of the League One new boys, with a trip to Stevenage coming on Saturday, August 20, while former Pools player Phil Brown will be back in town with relegated Preston North End on Tuesday, September 13.
And boss Wadsworth admits that it’s a tough introduction to the new campaign.
“We’re playing two of last season’s play-off teams inside the opening three games so of course it’s going to be a difficult start,” he told SportMail today.
“But I think we will be a lot better this season and will be in better shape to take on the bigger teams – not that we did too badly at that last year.
“But it’s a tough start and will be a great test of how much we have improved over the summer.”
