RONNIE Moore was left to reflect on an improved display from his Hartlepool United side beaten 1-0 at Wycombe Wanderers.

Moore had called for greater fight and commitment from his players and he got that but they struggled to create clear chances against the league leaders.

A 37th minute winner from Fred Onyedinma was enough to seal all three points for the home side, who were worthy of the three points.

Defeat was Pools’ 16th of the league campaign and it leaves them 10 points adrift of safety.

Moore said: “It was a better performance with a lot of commitment.

“We got lucky at times with some of the defending but we had three new lads playing and we had four struggling with the flu.

“So, for me there was an improvement.

“It would have been nice if the header late on went in, rather than hitting the post.

“We didn’t create too much but we defended well.

“The new lads have all contributed in their own little way and if we can add two more to that it gives us something to work on.”

Pools finished the match with ten men after sub Lewis Hawkins saw red for two yellow cards late on.

Moore added: “He has come on and tried to impress me and got booked.

“Their reaction didn’t help. He will learn from that.”

Moore also confirmed that midfielder Nicky Featherstone has signed a new one-month contract at the club.

Featherstone started in central midfield against Wycombe Wanderers before being subbed in the 83rd minute.
