EVERY footballer new to a club invariably has to perform a Friday night song at the team hotel – could Hartlepool United’s latest signing be a rival for Noel Gallagher?
It was some weekend for Fenwick and not just because of his singing prowess.
Fenwick’s family all made the long trip south from Gateshead on Saturday morning to watch the striker make his bow in the professional game.
The former civil engineer – who had to complete his initiation song in the team hotel on Friday night – was disappointed to get off to a losing start and hopes for better days ahead.
Fenwick added: “Apart from the result, the whole experience of being a professional has been brilliant so far, driving down on Friday, staying in the hotel and singing my initiation song.
“I sang Wonderwall by Oasis – the second time I have sung it this season.
“I did it pre-season at Dunston as well but I was a bit more nervous in front of the experienced professionals.”
While Fenwick is confident he can score goals for Pools, one area he knows he needs to work on quickly is improving his fitness.
“Fitness is a massive aspect of it” admitted Fenwick.
“I had a heavy summer and went away on holiday a few times and was in better shape at the end of last season.
“I have been working hard since I signed and I have a lot of work to do this week, next week and the week after that to get up to speed with some of them.”
