COLIN Cooper has named trialist Jonathan Greening in tonight’s starting line-up for the friendly with Middlesbrough at Victoria Park (KO 7.30pm).
The 35-year-old started training with the League Two club on Tuesday following a two-week trial at Championship side Rotherham United.
There is no place in the squad, however, for Tommy Miller, who has been on trial at Pools for the past fortnight.
Michael Duckworth and Luke James - who both signed new contracts with Pools today - start for the home side.
Former Boro players Matthew Bates and Stuart Parnaby start against their former side, while James partners Marlon Harewood up front.
It is Pools’ fifth match of pre-season.
They will be facing a strong Boro side, with new signing Kike starting alongside former Pools players Dimi Konstantopolous and Christian Burgess and Luke Williams who enjoyed loan spells at Pools last season.
Tonight sees the return of Craig Hignett, the Boro assistant manager, who left Pools in March this year.
* Meanwhile, Pools have been handed a bye in the First Round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, a competition in which the Vanishing Spray used in the World Cup will be tried out during the coming season.
