Michael Duckworth’s stunning strike for Hartlepool United away at Carlisle United has narrowly missed out on the Mitre Goal of the Year gong.
The full-back was in the running for his spectacular strike at Carlisle United on the final day of last season in which he stormed forward to lash home as Pools came from three down to draw 3-3 in a dramatic climax to an eventful campaign.
It was a sublime strike from the marauding right-back.
Duckworth made it into the final five shortlisted for the gong - but it wasn’t enough to win at The Football League Awards in Manchester.
Duckworth travelled to the awards alongside manager Craig Hignett and chief executive Russ Green.
He was beaten in the voting by Sheffield Wednesday’s Marco Matias.
