Following the club’s promotion to League Two, Dave Challinor was able to tie down the majority of his promotion winning squad that he wanted to keep.
Rhys Oates, Luke Armstrong and Ryan Johnson leaving have particularly been viewed as big misses but so far the side seem to be managing rather well.
Three wins from their opening four matches sees Pools sitting fifth in the League Two table with a game in hand on three of the four teams above them.
The club has been bolstered by some experienced additions and shrewd loan signings.
Pools head into September with a large squad of players which Dave Challinor will hope sees his side through until the start of the January transfer window.
Although the window is about to close, Pools will still be able to sign free agents.

5. Olufela Olomola
Scored four goals in one half as a trialist at Runcorn Linnets in pre-season but hasn’t really been able to make an impact since. His energy and pace look like they could cause teams trouble in League Two but his start to the season has been slightly hampered by injury. It’s too early to judge the 23-year-old based on just one league appearance but he’ll be hoping to get a decent run in the side at some point to get his Pools career up and running. A cameo as a striker at Barrow aside, the former Harrogate Town defender hasn’t got a look-in for Pools so far. He has been absent from the bench in the last two league matches but is an experienced and imposing option for Pools at the back. But as it stands, he’s Pools quite far down the pecking order as a centre-back at this early stage of the season as he looks to get up to speed with his new surroundings. Another bit of business that is just too early to judge. Photo: HUFC
Probably the worst kept secret of the summer was Pools’ signing of Mark Cullen. The striker spent all of pre-season at the club despite being injured for almost all of it. He arrived at Pools after a difficult few seasons with injury which has unfortunately continued into the new season. He’s made just one substitute appearance in the league so far but is back fit and getting up to speed. He’s a signing who brings a wealth of EFL experience and should score goals at this level if given a decent run in the side. It’s just about staying fit and getting games. Photo: HUFC
Something of a surprise package for Pools in the opening month of the season following his blistering start. Young loan signings are always a bit of an unknown quantity but Burey’s all action displays and clinical finishing has made him a very early contender for Pools’ signing of the summer. Three goals and an assist in three league starts for the Millwall loanee have proven the catalyst to Hartlepool’s strong start to life back in League Two. Hopefully Pools can extend his loan beyond January and to the end of the season. Photo: Mark Fletcher
