Following the club’s promotion to League Two, Dave Challinor was able to tie down the majority of his promotion winning squad that he wanted to keep.
Rhys Oates, Luke Armstrong and Ryan Johnson leaving have particularly been viewed as big misses but so far the side seem to be managing rather well.
Three wins from their opening four matches sees Pools sitting fifth in the League Two table with a game in hand on three of the four teams above them.
The club has been bolstered by some experienced additions and shrewd loan signings.
Pools head into September with a large squad of players which Dave Challinor will hope sees his side through until the start of the January transfer window.
Although the window is about to close, Pools will still be able to sign free agents.

Joined on loan from Huddersfield Town until January but has been limited to just substitute appearances in League Two so far. The 20-year-old midfielder has still been able to show some glimpses of quality when he’s been on the pitch, particularly when going forward and is currently the first choice to come into the side should any of the starting midfielders be unavailable. A life-long Hartlepool United supporter and a goalkeeper with plenty of experience playing in the EFL – this transfer should really be a home run for Pools. But displacing number 1 Ben Killip in goal won’t be an easy task for the former Derby County man. Mitchell made his debut in the Carabao Cup defeat against Crewe Alexandra with a solid performance but he’s likely to be limited to cup appearances initially unless Killip’s form drops. Still, a very, very good option to have. Photo: Will Matthews
Pools’ third and final loan signing of the summer. Will Goodwin arrived from Stoke City ahead of the first away trip of the season to Barrow. The striker joined Stoke from Chester earlier this year and hadn’t played a single minute of Football League football prior to joining Pools. But it certainly hasn’t seemed that way in his opening matches as he’s already got a goal and an assist to his name. Although just 19, Goodwin has a mature approach up front and his ability to hold the ball up and pick out teammates has proven the perfect foil to Burey’s more explosive approach. The versatile defender signed for Pools on the penultimate day of the transfer window, six-years on from making his professional debut for the club while on loan from Burnley. Has plenty of League Two experience and should provide good cover in a number of defensive positions. Seems a smart acquisition on paper. Photo: HUFC
