Pools were beaten 2-1 at the Laithwaite Community Stadium as they suffered their first defeat since the former AFC Fylde boss took charge a month ago.

Challinor is keen to bring in further players to add to the loan signing of winger Tyler Hamilton on loan from Hull City on Friday.

Further attacking options could still come it but Saturday’s defeat has Challinor assessing things at the back as well.

Salford City promotion winning defender Carl Piergianni hasn’t started a match for the Ammies since September and is a name rumoured to be attracting interest from numerous clubs regarding a potential loan deal.

“We’re expecting more arrivals and we’re working on bits and bobs but nothing will be done before Tuesday because they couldn’t play anyway,” Challinor said ahead of the FA Cup replay at home to Exeter City.

“We’ll look at [the defence], it’s easy to say what we need to do but we need to bring the right people in and not just make panic signings or sign players for the sake of it.

“They need to be available and hopefully we can add to that but if we don’t, it won’t change the fact that we’ll have to work with what we’ve got.

“Whether it’s before next weekend we’ll wait and see but we have to assess where we are and if we can bring in bodies that improve the team and give us different options than we will.

“We’ve got players who haven’t done anything wrong but need games and will go out on loan too.”

On his latest signing, Challinor added: “Tyler can play anywhere across the front three and has good technical ability and a little bit of a bright spark which we miss sometimes.

“So instead of forcing Luke [James] or Gime [Toure] out wide, we can afford to play them centrally with Tyler on.

“With the games we’ve got over the Christmas period, he’ll be another body that offers something different.”
