'A key player' 'Will be allowed to leave': Every Middlesbrough player’s situation at the start of pre-season

Middlesbrough have returned to pre-season training ahead of the 2021/22 campaign – with Neil Warnock looking to assess his squad in the coming weeks.

Boro have six pre-season friendlies arranged in July, including a week-long trip to Cornwall, when the Teessiders will step up their preparations.

New signings Joe Lumley and Sammy Ameobi will be hoping to make a positive first impression, while Warnock remains hopeful he can bring in more players before the start of the season.

There were several first-team departures at the end of last season, and more players could still follow – whether that be on permanent or loan deals.

Warnock’s aspiration is to challenge for promotion this term, and the Boro boss will know that successful campaigns start in the summer months.

The 72-year-old is also aware that some players can prove themselves during the off season
