MIDDLESBROUGH will today learn the severity of Mustapha Carayol’s knee injury.
The winger was stretchered off in the closing minutes of Saturday’ 0-0 draw at Bournemouth after landing uncomfortably on his lower leg after challenging for the ball with Ian Harte.
Boss Aitor Karanka could not elaborate on the Gambian’s condition after the game.
“It’s his knee and at the moment I don’t know (how bad it is),” he told SportMail.
“The doctor said it might be his posterior cruciate but I prefer to wait.
“Monday we will know what to do next.
“He was playing very well in the last few games and he is important to the team.
“I hope that his injury will not be serious.”
Grant Leadbitter will definitely miss the upcoming QPR and Huddersfield games after his kick out at Matt Ritchie saw him given his 10th yellow card of the season.
Karanka said he missed the first-half incident but admits his captain’s temporary unavailability will be a “big loss because he is an important player for us.”
The Spaniard added: “I was speaking with my staff and didn’t see it but Grant is a player who puts everything onto the pitch.
“But I have other players and I am happy with Dean (Whitehead) and (Nathaniel) Chalobah.”
