MIDDLESBROUGH have signed Lee Tomlin on a permanent basis – even though he has yet to play for Boro.

The 25-year-old joined Boro on loan on transfer deadline day from Peterborough United.

But the attacking player has yet to pull on the red shirt because of a three-match suspension.

However, head coach Aitor Karanka has liked what he has seen at Rockliffe Park and has now got Tomlin to put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year contract.

The fee, officially undisclosed,is reputed to be as high as £1.5million.

Tomlin, who has scored 10 goals for Posh this season in League One, can also play in a wide position.

He signed for Peterborough from Rushden in August 2010 after scoring 28 goals in 169 appearances for the Diamonds.

Tomlin, who scored 43 goals in 156 appearances for Posh, will be in the Boro squad for the first time in Saturday’s game against Leeds United at the Riverside.
