The Middlesbrough starting XI and substitutes bench which highlights Neil Warnock's transfer task this summer

Middlesbrough appear to have a big summer ahead of them with several players either out of contract or set to depart following loan spells at the club.

Marvin Johnson, Ashley Fletcher, Britt Assombalonga, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and goalkeeper Jordan Archer will all see their current deals expire at the end of the campaign, while Yannick Bolasie, Neeskens Kebano and Marcus Bettinelli are nearing the end of their loan moves.

Manager Neil Warnock said last week that he’s preparing for next season assuming those players will depart in the coming months – even if discussions are planned. So where would that leave Boro?

Warnock has already admitted signing another striker will be the club’s priority, while they’ll also need a new goalkeeper and potentially a couple of wide players.

With that in mind, we’ve put together what we think is Boro’s strongest starting XI and substitutes bench - excluding the players who will be out of contract.
