MIDDLESBROUGH extended their lead at the top of the Barclays U21 Premier League Division Two table to five points with a 3-1 win at West Brom.
Boro sent put a young side at the Hawthorns with U18 regular Harry Chapman in form in the first half. The Hartlepool-born winger had a chance on 17 minutes but could not connect cleanly before setting up Thomas McAloon eight minutes later only for his close-range shot to be saved by the keeper.
Boro lost Chapman to injury but they went in front four minutes from the break, Bradley Fewster netting after Lewis Maloney’s free-kick had been saved.
Adil Nabi equalised direct from a corner early in the second half but Boro regained the lead just after the hour when Junior Mondal scored after a brilliant run and shot.
And when the U18 leading scorer was brought down in the Albion box, Fewster sealed the points from the penalty spot.
