The 31-year-old was set to join Boro on transfer deadline day in October but a loan move to the Riverside wasn’t completed in time.

Bolasie also knew Boro players Britt Assombalonga, Chuba Akpom and Marc Bola and believed the move would have suited him.

“I did want to go because I know the gaffer and I know what the gaffer can do for me,” Bolasie told The Beautiful Game Podcast. “I know that I was flying because I played the pre-season games and knew what I did in pre-season.

“For me going there to show what I can do was perfect to help the team because I knew a couple of men there, Britt, Chuba, Bola. It was a good fit and it made sense.”

When asked if the desire is still there to join Boro in January, Bolasie replied: “I don’t know if it’s 100 per cent there now, now it’s a total different picture. That was before, it’s a total different picture now.”

Warnock has always said he would still like to sign Bolasie in January.

“I’d have Yannick tomorrow, everybody knows that,” said the Boro boss earlier this month.
