Former Middlesbrough man Robbie Tinkler has become Steve Watson's sixth summer signing at non-league Gateshead.

Tinkler who made 17 appearances for the Heed last season while on loan from Boro, has signed a one year deal following his Riverside release.

And Tinkler is delighted to pen a permanent deal at the International Stadium.

"I'm over the moon to be back," he said.

"I met with Steve yesterday and he showed his intent to bring me in earlier on in the close season.

"The main thing is that I've signed the contract and I'm really looking forward to next season.

"We've got a good base together now and hopefully, we can do well next year."

The former North Ferriby United loanee says Watson's decision to stay, despite the club having to rein things in financially, played a major part in Tinkler's return to Tyneside.

"Working under the gaffer last season made it a bit of a no-brainer to come back - him Micky and Clarky made me feel really welcome and part of something," added Tinkler.

"I really enjoyed my time here last year but circumstances never arose for me to come back until now and I can't wait to get started."
