MIDDLESBROUGH striker Patrick Bamford has pulled out of the England U21 squad through injury.
Gareth Southgate’s U21 squad take on the Czech Republic, in Prague, and Germany at the Riverside next Monday but Bamford won’t be involved.
The in-form Boro striker tweeted to say how disappointed he was but said he had to pull out as he has been carrying an injury for the past five weeks. No further details have been given.
Bamford, who played 90 minutes in Saturday’s defeat to Bournemouth, tweeted: “Gutted to have had 2 withdraw from the U21s squad, been playing with an injury for past 5 weeks and needed 2 sort it. Also big thanks to Gareth Southgate for calling me up, means everything to me to play for my country and he knows I was very disappointed.”
AFC Bournemouth’s Calum Wilson has also withdrawn through injury and Eric Dier will remain with Tottenham Hotspur for assessment on an injury sustained during their game against Leicester City.
Dier will not travel with Southgate’s Three Lions for Friday’s game with Czech Republic ahead of the Riverside clash.
Fulham’s Cauley Woodrow has also been called into the squad following an injury sustained by West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino.
* MIDDLESBROUGH’S match against Fulham on April 25 (KO 3pm) at Craven Cottage has not been chosen to be televised, it has been confirmed.
The game was being considered for live coverage on Sky.
Instead Brighton v Watford and Bournemouth v Bolton have been chosen.
