Our Middlesbrough writer Joe Nicholson has picked his best starting XI of players who caught the eye in one off games against Boro, both at the Riverside and away from home. Scroll down and flick through the pages of our picture gallery to see who made the cut:
1. GK: Sam Johnstone
None of the Championship goalkeepers really convinced me this season, plus they didn't always have much to do in the games against Boro. Johnstone made some impressive saves in West Brom's 1-0 win at the Riverside, though, and was a constant in the Baggies' promotion-winning side. Photo: Clive Mason
2. RB: Matty Cash
A player transformed under Sabri Lamouchi. Cash's positional switch to right-back was an inspired decision despite Forest's late implosion which saw them miss out on the play-offs. The 22-year-old still contributed with three goals and five assists in the Championship, including one against Boro. Photo: Nathan Stirk
3. CB: Ben White
The Brighton loanee played every minute of every league game for the Whites and was exactly the sort of player Marcelo Bielsa needed. White is comfortable stepping out with the ball from the back and even moved into a holding midfield role when Kalvin Phillips was unavailable, like during Leeds' 1-0 win over Boro at the Riverside. 4. CB: Sean Morrison
A natural leader and imposing figure at the back, the sort of player Neil Warnock said he wanted at Boro. Morrison is also effective in both boxes, as shown when he opened the scoring at the Riverside in a 3-1 win for Cardiff. Photo: Getty Images
